Applying to UK

The main intake offered by all Universities is in September / October, few universities offer Jan / Feb intake also. The UK has a centralized system of application and the admission for undergraduate degrees, known as UCAS.

Post Study Work in UK
​
The Tier 1 (Post-study work) category allows the UK to retain the most able international (non-European) graduates who have studied here. Applicants who have permission to stay under Tier 1 (Post-study work), you can look for work without needing to have a sponsor.

Following is a guided route to registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) of United Kingdom and securing a job as a nurse or a carer (also known as clinical support worker or health care assistant).

General required information for all candidates/applicants (Nurses and carers/healthcare workers):

Any indemnity cover for your place of practice? Like insurance (to be discussed later). Yes, or no?

You will need to provide police clearance for ten years in your current country of residence and anywhere where you have lived up to twelve months when asked to do so. Get ready.

Evidence of change of name if applicable, like marriage certificate.

Health report as evidence of good health. Medical test in a recognised hospital later when asked to do so.

Full registration with the NMC UK
​
As a Nurse Four steps are required to get registered with the NMC UK and the process can extend over many months before completion. These are:

If you are an overseas registered nurse, you need to register in the UK before you can practise.

Complete the eligibility and qualification application with a fee payable to the NMC.

Take the test of competence and complete the registration application.

The first step of the application process is the test of English that is acceptable for the registration as a nurse or midwife.
These are:

The IELTS Academic paper & computer-based test taken at a test centre.

The OET: The OET@Home as well as OET computer test delivered at home without necessarily traveling.

The second step is the Nursing and Midwifery Council NMC’s Test of Competence (ToC) required to understand the candidate’s skills and knowledge level before they join the NMC register.
This has part A and B.

The A part is computer-based test (CBT) available at Pearson VUE test centres globally.

The B part, the Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) will be done in the designated hospitals in United Kingdom.
This will be an examination in 10 stations to examine the candidate’ skills and knowledge.
